Leah and Patrick
Old St. Mary’s Church and Rust Belt Market Wedding
Detroit, MI | Ferndale, MI
When I first meet a couple, there usually aren’t too many wedding details in place yet. There’s a date and maybe a venue has been secured, but after that it’s pretty much just up in the air with how the day is going to go. In Leah and Patrick’s case, I knew them before they were even engaged! So when I look back on a wedding day, after following a couple throughout their entire planning process, it’s amazing to see how much of themselves comes through in the details and every part of their day that they spent so much effort planning.
Old St. Mary’s Church in Greektown was still decorated from Christmas. Poinsettias and Christmas Tree’s lined the altar creating the most gorgeous backdrop for a winter wedding. Less exciting for a winter wedding was the lack of snow outside! But the frigid temps kept our heads level and reminded us that Michigan did not forget about winter. We were able to hit up Greektown, The Belt, The Fox, Comerica Park, and Parker’s Alley before heading out to Ferndale for their amazing reception at the Rust Belt Market.
If you have never been to the RBM, GO! It’s an indoor market full of Detroit artisans selling some of the most amazing homemade, local stuff. Since the market was still open at the beginning of the reception, the cocktail hour also consisted of wandering around through the shops!
Seeing the happiness that fills a room during a wedding reception is always a highlight to me. There’s so much laughter and joy that it’s really impossible to not love being a wedding photographer. Leah and Patrick really are a definition of love. They are perfect for each other.
Even though they are returning to their lives in Washington D.C., Detroit will always be where their love story began.
