Laura and Joe and Sophie and Murphy
I’m sure there is something symbolic to be said about the re-birth of Detroit and doing a maternity session on Belle Isle, right in the heart of the city. Belle Isle is one of my favorite locations to shoot because of the wide open spaces, awesome architecture and of course, the Detroit Skyline in the background.
I’m a bit late to the party with this post. I say that because Sophie will be turning one year old in just a few months! And while Laura and Joe’s journey for their family started way before this day, this session will always hold a special place in my heart. Laura was the winner of a free session giveaway I was hosting and not even pregnant yet, she knew what she wanted to remember. So the promise was made that the session would be waiting for her and her growing family. When Laura announced she was expecting, I’m pretty sure I was jumping in the air. The thought of what amazing parents Laura and Joe were gonna be left me with such an excitement for them that I honestly couldn’t wait to meet up with them. We arrived at Belle Isle on what I would bet was the windiest day of the year and managed to find some amazing spots around the Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory where Laura could show off her beautiful dress and glowing baby bump.
Maternity sessions are special to me because they really capture the connection that a mother-to-be feels with her child. Even though they aren’t here yet, they are loved unconditionally. They are part of a family that so desperately wants to share their love.
